Alex Teaches French

Speak French in a way that finally feels natural.

Self-paced courses and coaching for English speakers who want to stop translating word for word and start expressing themselves naturally in French.

About Alexander Partridge

My relationship with the French language began around the age of ten, growing up in the suburbs of Washington D.C. I would pin French words onto my parents’ fridge door, fascinated by the way they sounded and how they seemed to open a window into another world.

As the son of an American mother and British father in a completely anglophone household, speaking another language fluently once felt like a far-off dream. But years of study, curiosity, and persistence slowly turned that dream into reality — and eventually, into a life in France.

In 2018, I created Alex Teaches French to help others experience not only the language itself, but the nuance, humor, emotion, and texture woven into everyday French. What began as a few short videos on Instagram has since grown into a global community of learners brought together by a shared fascination with the French language and culture.

From filming lessons in Paris to teaching the nuances of the subjunctive, my goal remains the same: to make French feel alive, approachable, and deeply human.

My work has led to collaborations with companies, cultural institutions, and public figures including Rosetta Stone, the City of Paris, the U.S. Embassy in Paris, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in New York City, and Kenny G.

I’m not a native speaker. And that’s the point.

As someone who learned French on my own before building a life in France, I create the kind of explanations I wish I’d had myself.

My goal is not only to demystify grammar, but to help learners understand how French speakers actually think, express themselves, and interact in real life.

Let’s work together.
